How to delete all emails from one sender in Yahoo Mail

One store, one newsletter or one old group chat has buried your Yahoo inbox, and you want every message from them gone without picking them out one by one. Yahoo gives you two ways to do it, depending on whether you're on your phone or a computer.

Updated October 14, 2026 · Yahoo Mail on the web and the Yahoo Mail app

Short answer: In the Yahoo Mail app on iPhone or Android, long-press an email from the sender, tap Delete all messages from this sender, then tap Delete all. Each run handles up to 10,000 emails, so repeat it for bigger senders. On Yahoo Mail in a browser, search for the sender, select all the results and click Delete. Deleted mail sits in Trash, which Yahoo empties after 7 days.

Which route to use

The quickest route depends on the device in your hand:

Where you areWhat to useWorth knowing
Yahoo Mail app, iPhone or AndroidDelete all messages from this senderUp to 10,000 emails per run
Yahoo Mail in a browserSearch by sender, then select all and deleteSelect all starts with 100, then offers the rest

Yahoo's help pages describe the one-tap sender action for the app only. On the web, the documented way is to find the sender's mail with search and delete the results in bulk. If you have a phone with the app installed, that's usually the shorter path, even if you normally read mail on a computer.

In the Yahoo Mail app (iPhone and Android)

The app has a dedicated action that clears a sender's mail in one go. The steps are the same on iOS and Android:

  1. Open the Yahoo Mail app and find any email from the sender you want to clear.
  2. Press and hold that email until the options menu appears.
  3. Tap Delete all messages from this sender.
  4. Tap Delete all to confirm, then follow any further prompts on screen.

The messages move to your Trash folder rather than vanishing straight away.

The 10,000 limit: Yahoo says that when you delete multiple emails in the app, "there is a limit of 10,000 emails per action." For a sender who has mailed you for a decade, one run may not catch everything. Run the action again on another of their emails, and keep going until none are left.

A few practical tips:

On Yahoo Mail in a browser

On the web you get to the same result in two stages: first gather everything from the sender with search, then select the results and delete them.

1. Pull up everything from the sender

Yahoo offers two ways to search by sender in New Yahoo Mail:

Typing the full email address in From is the most precise option. A plain keyword search can also match messages that only mention the sender's name somewhere in the text.

2. Select the results and delete

  1. Tick the checkbox next to one result.
  2. Click the Expand icon in the upper left and choose to select all.
  3. Click the Delete icon at the top of the page.

Select all starts by picking 100 emails, and a notice near the top of the screen then gives you the option to select the rest. Use it before you press Delete if the sender has sent you more than a hundred messages. We cover that notice, deleting whole folders, and working through really large mailboxes in how to delete thousands of emails in Yahoo Mail.

When the delete finishes, run the same search again. If anything from the sender is still there, repeat the select-and-delete step.

What happens to the deleted mail

Whichever route you use, deleted messages go to Trash first. Yahoo empties Trash on its own: "Trash is deleted after 7 days," and you can't change that setting.

That gives you a short window. If you cleared a sender and then realize you needed one of their receipts or tickets, look in Trash before the week is up. After that, plan on it being gone.

If you're clearing senders because your mailbox is close to full, see Yahoo Mail storage full for what Yahoo says happens at the limit and where the space actually goes.

Stop the sender from filling your inbox again

Deleting a sender's backlog doesn't stop their next email. Two tools handle that, and they work best together.

Unsubscribe, if it's a mailing list

For newsletters and store promotions, unsubscribing is the cleanest fix because the mail stops being sent at all.

Yahoo's own suggestion when there's no unsubscribe option at all is to mark the message as spam.

Add a filter for anything that keeps coming

If unsubscribing doesn't work, or the sender isn't a mailing list, a filter can send their future mail straight to a folder or to Trash. Yahoo lets you create up to 500 filters, and you set them up in Yahoo Mail in a desktop browser:

  1. Click the More icon below your mail folders and select Settings.
  2. Click Filters, then Add new filters.
  3. Name the filter, set a rule that matches the sender's address, and choose a folder (or Trash) for their mail.
  4. Click Save.

Filters only handle new mail. Yahoo says that "recently created filters will not apply to existing mail." So the order matters: clear the sender's old mail with the steps above, then add the filter to catch what comes next.

Filters run from the top of the list down, and if two filters match the same email, the higher one wins. If a new filter seems to do nothing, check that an older one above it isn't catching the mail first.

FAQ

Can I delete all emails from one sender on Yahoo Mail on the web?

Yahoo documents the Delete all messages from this sender action for the Yahoo Mail app. On the web, search for the sender, select all the results and delete them. Select all picks 100 emails at a time at first, and a notice then offers to select the rest.

Is there a limit on how many emails I can delete at once in the Yahoo Mail app?

Yes. Yahoo says there is a limit of 10,000 emails per action when deleting multiple emails in the app. If one sender has sent you more than that, run the action again until their mail is gone.

Will a Yahoo Mail filter delete the emails I already have from a sender?

No. Yahoo says recently created filters will not apply to existing mail. A filter only handles new mail, so delete the old messages first, then add the filter.

How long do deleted emails stay in Yahoo Mail's Trash?

Yahoo empties the Trash folder automatically after 7 days, and you can't change that setting.

Clearing one sender is easy once you know who it is. The harder part is knowing which of your senders are worth clearing. That's the gap PurgeInbox is being built to close.
