Privacy Policy
PurgeInbox is an inbox cleanup tool, operated by THE CHAT WIDGET LLC ("we", "us"). It is still in development, starting with Outlook and Hotmail, with Yahoo, AOL and iCloud planned. This policy covers two things: the PurgeInbox app (how it will handle your mailbox when it launches) and this website (purgeinbox.com) as it works today. PurgeInbox is not intended for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Questions or requests: privacy@purgeinbox.com.
The PurgeInbox app
The app isn't available yet. This section describes how it is being built. If anything changes before launch, we'll update this page first.
Connecting your mailbox
You connect a mailbox yourself. For Microsoft (Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, MSN), Yahoo and AOL, you sign in on the provider's own page and grant access there. We never see that password. For providers that don't offer this kind of sign-in, such as iCloud, you create an app-specific password in your provider's settings and give it to PurgeInbox. You can revoke it at any time. We store sign-in tokens and app-specific passwords encrypted, and use them only to carry out what you ask.
We ask for read and write access to your mail because deleting, moving and unsubscribing require it. We don't access your contacts or calendar.
What the app reads
To show you which senders fill your inbox, the app reads message details: the sender, date, size, whether you opened it (so you can see which senders you never read), and unsubscribe information that senders include in their email headers. It is designed to work without reading the body or attachments of your emails. It doesn't scan message content for any purpose.
What the app does
It groups message details by sender, so you can see how many emails and how much space each sender takes up. When you choose an action, such as deleting, archiving or moving every email from a sender, or unsubscribing, the app carries it out in your own mailbox. Every action is started by you.
Unsubscribing uses the unsubscribe link or address the sender provides in its email headers. Depending on how the sender set it up, that means the app contacts the sender's unsubscribe address on your behalf.
What we store, and for how long
- Account details: your sign-in email address, which provider you connected, and your plan, for as long as you have an account.
- Sign-in tokens and app-specific passwords: encrypted, until you disconnect the mailbox or delete your account.
- Message details: we keep message details only for as long as it takes to show you your results and carry out your actions, and never longer than 24 hours. We don't keep a copy of your messages.
- Action history: a record of the cleanup actions you ran (for example, which senders you cleared and how many emails were affected), so you can see what was done. For Yahoo and AOL mailboxes we keep totals only (how many emails, how much space), and any other Yahoo or AOL mailbox data is deleted within 24 hours. Your sign-in email address and encrypted sign-in token are kept only while the mailbox stays connected.
Disconnecting and deleting
You can disconnect a mailbox or delete your account at any time. Disconnecting deletes that mailbox's stored tokens or app-specific password straight away. Deleting your account also deletes your account details and action history, except payment records we're legally required to keep. You can also revoke PurgeInbox's access from your provider's own account settings.
What we never do with your mail
- We never sell or rent your data, or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- We never use your mail for advertising, marketing profiles, or market research.
- We never use your mail to train AI models.
- No person at PurgeInbox looks at your mailbox data, unless you ask us to (for example, for support), it's needed for security, or the law requires it.
PurgeInbox is paid for by its users' subscriptions, not by data.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run PurgeInbox, under contracts that limit them to providing their service to us: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database) and Stripe (payments; Stripe receives no mailbox data). We don't share mailbox data with anyone else.
This website
Waitlist sign-ups
If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address, which email provider you use (worked out from your address's domain, or as you tell us if we can't tell), which form you used (for example, the homepage or a particular guide) and the page you were on. Sign-ups are processed by our form provider, Formspree, on our behalf.
We use your email address for one thing: to tell you when PurgeInbox launches for your provider. Your provider answer, counted in aggregate, helps us decide which provider to support next. We won't sell it, share it with advertisers, or add you to unrelated mailing lists. We keep your waitlist entry until we've sent you the launch email for your provider, or until you ask us to remove it.
Chat messages
This site has a chat widget provided by GhostChat, which we also operate. If you send a message, we receive what you type and any contact details you choose to include, so we can reply. The widget may store an identifier in your browser so a conversation can continue across pages. Conversations are kept until you ask us to delete them.
Server logs
Our hosting provider, Vercel, automatically processes standard request information such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, to serve the site and keep it secure. Logs are kept for a short period by Vercel and then deleted.
What we don't do
- We don't run advertising or ad-tracking scripts on this site.
- We don't sell personal information.
- This website doesn't access any email account. Only the app does, after you connect a mailbox yourself.
Your choices
Every launch email will include an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us at any time to remove your email address from the waitlist, or to delete a chat conversation, by emailing privacy@purgeinbox.com or through the chat widget on this site.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. If you're in the EU, UK or a US state with a privacy law (such as California), you have these rights by law, and we'll answer within the time the law sets. We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising. Send requests to privacy@purgeinbox.com.
Legal basis and where data is processed
We process app data to provide the service you asked for (contract), waitlist and chat data because you gave it to us (consent, which you can withdraw at any time), and server logs to keep the site secure (legitimate interests). We are a US company, and your data is processed in the United States. If you're in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data-protection authority.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how the app handles mailbox data, we'll tell connected users before it takes effect.
